Self Reflection

(1) How do you think you are doing so far in your senior project and why?  AE, P, AP, CR, or NC
So far in my senior project I think I’m doing very well, which I think so far I deserve a P. I’m up to date on my research checks, and my Blogs are always done on time. I’m in the process of completing my service learning  at the Law office and also for my first independent component volunteering at the House Of Ruth. I enjoy going to both places. I also got an offer at the Law office to work for an entire week while Lisa (secretary) goes on vacation, so I do know that Antonio and Lisa trust me and know that I have the capability to work in the office.
(2) What one thing do you think you have done well on and why?
I think I’m doing very well in both House of Ruth and the Law office because I go twice a for each one and everyday I learn something new. I’m very productive and helpful when I go to either one. It’s something that I enjoy doing so I do try to stay as long as I can and help around.
(3) What is one thing you would like to improve on and why?
One thing I would like to improve on and why, is the different terms and words you need to know that an attorney uses because, there are times when I’m in the office with Antonio having a conversation and I don’t understand some of the words he uses, I therefore have to ask him what the word means. I want to be able to have a full conversation and know exactly what he’s talking about.

Science Fair Proposal

1. What is your hypothesis?
If a person has a high ability to retain short term information, then they will provide better eyewitness accounts.

2. Identify the dependent (produced), independent (manipulated) and control variables in your hypothesis.
Independent (manipulated): Time it takes to complete card game test (seconds)
Dependent (produced): Score accuracy on eyewitness test (percent on test)
Control: A random sample of 22 people

3. What is the connection between your science fair project and your senior project EQ?
"Several things fall In place nothing is Guaranteed in Winning ... We cannot tell a Client we will win its not a for sure thing but we do the following : Question any and all witnesses, Negotiate deals and terms with Prosecutors that may result in reducing charges and lesser sentence, we suggest alternatives tht a judge may consider we provide yo with honest assessments of where your case is Headed and your alternatives to avoid trial. We attempt to create "Reasonable Doubt" in the minds of the jury." According to Barbara Jean McAtlin, eyewitness testimony is an unreliable form of evidence. With over 5,000 wrongful convictions each year being mistaken because of eyewitness identifications. This being said that eyewitness should not be done during a trial. “Did the eyewitness really see the criminal? Or, did s/he only see someone who resembled him/her?”

4. How will you perform the experiment?  Include the equipment you plan on using.
I will first test a person's ability to complete a card game test designed to test short term memory (http://www.funbrain.com/match/).  I will record the time it took them to do so.  Then I will ask that person to watch a video and answer a questionnaire.  I will then record their percent score.  Lastly, I will graph the data to see if people who perform well on the card game test also perform well on the questionnaire.  From there, I will research WHY my experimental results turned out they way they did.

5. Which category will your project be listed under?
Behavioral/Social Science

What I've Learned So Far

1) What have you learned how to do since you started working on your senior project?
Since working on my senior project I learned how to navigate the website which was very new to me.

2) CLICK HERE

3) What research helped you to do this and how?
Mr. Purther was able to show and help me how to use the link, the link was very new to me but with Purther’s help I got a better understanding on how to use the website. Purther also helped me set it up with a notebook which my notebook consist of two pages of contents, a section for each lecture notes that I do not understand so at the end of each assignment Purther will go over it with me but also for the lecture notes I do understand I will be doing Cornell notes.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1) For my independent study component I plan on doing a course on Law and Society in which  I will be exploring how is used.

2) My plan will meet those 30 hours by taking a open cource on Law and Society, the course features lecture notes that cover 25 different topics that I will be learning this will help complete my 30 hours work requirement.

3) My independent component relates to my EQ because I'm going to be learning about law and how it's used so it will help me answer my EQ by being knowledgeable.

Defining the Essential Question

1) what is most important to being a successful criminal lawyer?

2) Successful and Criminal Lawyer

3) determined, confident, motivated, conviction, defendant, prosecuted, defense lawyer, guilty.

4) Antonio J. Bestard has honestly been my most important source because he gave me a better understanding of what criminal law is he helped me get that motivation that I needed to determine if I really wanted to become a criminal lawyer. He explained so many different things to me that I never once knew, Attorney Bestard took me to go watch several of his cases that he was doing and that also helped me get a better understanding.

Presentation Reflection

My interview helped me make my presentation because I talked about the important parts of my interview like, The house Ruth, different types of books to read, and what to study in.

The service learning I will be doing in the future stood out the most to because I’m going to have a chance of experiencing what it’s like to be at The House of Ruth.

The presentation itself was challenging and using my interview and putting it in a presentation format. The reason being is I was trying to make it sound interesting without it sounding like I was reading off the paper.

Interview Check

I’m going to be interviewing Antonio Bastard a criminal lawyer, the reason why I will be interviewing attorney Bastard because I felt as he was the perfect match for me to interview but also to do my hours with him, he’s honestly a role model to me. I felt the energy from him and seeing him work on different and many cases he was very motivated. I hung out with Bastard for an entire day, I really opened up to him and he was honor to allow me to work with him. A couple of additional questions I would ask attorney Bastard is What are your professional background and experience? Average how much time does it take to close a case? How do you handle cases? How many cases have you done so far? Have you ever felt threatened by any clients?

Criminal Lawyer

My topic for senior year is Criminal Law. Why Criminal Law? To be honest ever since I was little I wanted to become a lawyer. Law & Order was always a favorite show of mine and knowing that would be me one day, I absolutely loved it. While looking more into law and researching different things it just really caught my attention. I have so much interest in becoming a lawyer, I always pictured myself in court fighting a case. I knew my life goals were set to become a lawyer and specifically a criminal lawyer. I would hope to accomplish basic knowledge of laws and the rights of citizens that are being prosecuted by the law. I also hope to gain work experiences in the field of criminal law and apply that knowledge to my future career and now my rights as a citizen.
